How To Reduce Body Heat By Acupressure

There is more to Traditional Chinese practices than it meets the eye. By stimulating acupoints, people can clear out the blockages, restore balance, promote energy, and speed up the regeneration process. But, most importantly, they can also decrease body heat caused by hot weather, fever, or hot flashes. Here, we will show you exactly how to reduce body heat by acupressure. We’ve selected a couple of handy tips you can use to calm the fever or cool down the body.

Can You Use Acupressure to Cool the Body?

Acupressure is an ancient technique meant to stimulate the flow of energy in the human body. It involves pressure and kneading techniques. By applying pressure to specific points or meridians, it can send out a signal to the nervous system and promote healthy energy flow.

As a result, people use it to relieve chronic conditions, treat diseases, relax the body, or soothe the pain. Since it speeds up the body’s natural rejuvenation process and corrects any imbalances in the flow of energy, acupressure can also be useful for cooling the body and calming down the heat, particularly from fevers or heatstroke.

However, there is not enough research to confirm its full effect. Nevertheless, a lot of people, particularly in Asia, rely on acupressure for heat control.

How to Reduce Body Heat by Acupressure?

The human body has specific acupoints that provide a cooling effect. According to Jasmine Modi, an experienced acupuncture therapist, you can use these points to soothe fever, heatstroke, or skin problems due to heat. Here is how you can find them and where you should press.

·        Acupoint: PC 3 (Pericardium 3)

On the inner part of the hand right next to the big tendon of the elbow, there is a small acupoint. People mainly use it to cool down the body from heatstroke, anxiety, or skin issues caused by heat. It might also come in handy for fever.

·        Acupoint: Li 4 or He Gu (Large Intestine 4)

Between the webbing of the forefinger and the thumb, you can press on an acupoint (He Gu) connected to the large intestine. This small yet practical spot is mainly used to calm the common flu, allergies, and headaches. It can also be useful for clearing out the heat on the forehead. However, it is not recommended for pregnant women.

·        Acupoint: Ht 8 (Heart 8)

Just below the ring and pinky finger, there is an acupoint directly connected to the heart. It can be useful for cooling the body from the summer heat, reducing insomnia, thirst, and restlessness.

·        Acupoint: Li 11 (Large Intestine 11)

This is another acupoint connected to the large intestine. You can find it right on the outer section of the elbow crease. It can come in handy for clearing out fever, skin eruptions from heat, sweating, and even the burning sensation when urinating. It can be a highly beneficial spot for cooling the body and restoring proper energy flow.

What’s the Right Massaging Technique?

If you want to get the preferred effects, you have to make sure you are using the correct massaging techniques. First, locate the proper acupoint. Try not to miss it since you won’t experience any effects.

Then, all you need to do is apply pressure and knead the acupoint with the middle finger. Kneading is done in circular motions. You use the finger to apply just enough pressure and move it around to promote blood flow. The massage can last from 2 to 3 min on each acupoint.

But, be careful not to apply too much pressure. The key is to get a calming massage that will relax the muscles and soothe the skin. Not something that will feel uncomfortable and painful.

Then, take the index finger or the thumb and slightly pinch the acupoint. Wait for around a minute before you let go. To get the best results, you should massage the spot three times every day or as often as you need.

When massaging the Li 4 acupoint, press and release the spot 30 times in 1 min; keep pressing the point until you feel a sort of numbness. If you want to use the same spot for constipation or other problems, you can knead and press it for 3 min. To rub the spot correctly, keep kneading in a clockwise motion.

Even if it sounds pretty unlikely, acupressure can make for a handy treatment for cooling the body, especially from a fever or sunstroke. There are certain acupoints that can make that happen. As long as you hit the spot and massage it correctly, you can get the effects you like. Have you tried any of these spots before? Share your thoughts in the comments.
