7 Gua Sha Moves for a Tightened and Refreshed Décolleté

Gua Sha, a traditional Chinese technique, is renowned for its ability to improve circulation, reduce tension, and enhance skin vitality. While it’s often used on the face, the décolleté area—comprising the neck, chest, and upper shoulders—can also greatly benefit from Gua Sha. This delicate region often shows signs of aging and sun damage, making it an ideal area to target with specific Gua Sha techniques.

If you’re new to Gua Sha, check out our basic guide for an introduction. Here, we’ll explore eight effective Gua Sha moves to tighten and refresh your décolleté, helping you achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance.

1. The Gentle Neck Glide

Start Point: Base of the neck, near the collarbones
End Point: Jawline

Apply a nourishing oil or serum to your neck and chest. Using the flat side of your Gua Sha tool, start at the base of your neck, where it meets the collarbones. Glide the tool upward toward your jawline. This move helps improve lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness, making the neck and décolleté look firmer. Repeat five to ten times on each side.

Benefits:

  • Reduces fluid retention
  • Encourages lymphatic drainage
  • Prepares the skin for deeper Gua Sha techniques

2. The Collarbone Sweep

Start Point: Center of the collarbone, near the sternum
End Point: Shoulder, at the end of the collarbone

Position your Gua Sha tool at the center of your collarbone, just above the sternum. Sweep the tool outward along the collarbone toward your shoulder. This technique relieves tension in the upper chest and shoulders while promoting better circulation.

Benefits:

  • Relieves shoulder and chest tension
  • Boosts circulation in the décolleté area
  • Helps smooth fine lines around the collarbone

3. The Neck and Chest Lift

Start Point: Center of the chest, just below the collarbone
End Point: Base of the neck (either under the chin or below the ear)

Hold your Gua Sha tool horizontally. Start at the center of your chest, just below the collarbone. Glide the tool upward toward the base of your neck, either directly under the chin for a vertical stroke or diagonally towards the area below your ear for a diagonal stroke. This movement lifts and firms the skin on both the chest and neck areas. Perform this stroke five times on each side to ensure even coverage.

Benefits:

  • Lifts and firms the skin in the chest and neck area
  • Improves skin elasticity
  • Enhances the appearance of the décolleté and neck

4. The Shoulder Tension Release

Start Point: Base of the neck, where it meets the shoulder
End Point: Outer shoulder, at the end of the collarbone

Place your Gua Sha tool at the base of your neck, right where it meets the shoulder. Using the curved side of the tool, glide it outward along the top of your shoulder toward the outer end of the collarbone. This move helps to release muscle tension in the décolleté region.

Benefits:

  • Eases muscle tension
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Improves posture of the neck and shoulders

5. The Heart Center Press

Start Point: Center of the chest, directly on the sternum
End Point: Same as the start point (this is a pressing technique)

Position the Gua Sha tool in the center of your chest, just below the collarbone, directly over the sternum. Gently press and hold the tool in this area for a few seconds, allowing the pressure to stimulate blood flow and release stagnant energy.

Benefits:

  • Stimulates blood flow
  • Releases stagnant energy
  • Revitalizes the central chest area

6. The Lymphatic Drainage Sweep

Start Point: Center of the chest, just above the sternum
End Point: Underarm

Start at the center of your chest, just above the sternum, and use the curved edge of the Gua Sha tool to sweep outward and slightly downward toward your underarm. This move encourages lymphatic drainage and reduces puffiness.

Benefits:

  • Encourages lymphatic drainage
  • Reduces puffiness and swelling
  • Helps clear toxins from the skin

7. The Jawline Sculpt

Start Point: Center of the chin, below the jawline
End Point: Earlobe

For the final move, place the curved side of the tool under your jaw at the center of your chin. Glide it upward along the jawline, finishing at the earlobe. This move sculpts the jawline and lifts the upper neck and chest area.

Benefits:

  • Sculpts and defines the jawline
  • Lifts the upper neck and chest
  • Enhances the overall appearance of the décolleté

Incorporating these Gua Sha moves into your regular skincare routine can help you achieve a tighter, more refreshed décolleté. Remember to always use gentle pressure and follow up with a moisturizer to lock in the benefits. With consistent practice, you’ll notice a visible improvement in the tone and texture of your décolleté, making it look as youthful and radiant as the rest of your skin.
