Auriculotherapy for Allergies: Pressure Points That Can Help You Breathe Easier

Auriculotherapy for Allergies: Pressure Points That Can Help You Breathe Easier

If you suffer from seasonal allergies—especially to things like grass, olive trees, or airborne pollen—and you’re looking for natural, drug-free relief, this article is for you.

In this short guide, we’ll introduce a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique called auriculotherapy, which uses pressure on specific points of the ear to help relieve allergy symptoms. All recommendations in this article are based on the professional input of a certified TCM therapist.

Auriculotherapy for Allergy Relief

Auriculotherapy is a therapeutic technique based on the idea that the ear reflects the entire body in miniature. In TCM, pressing certain areas of the ear can stimulate corresponding organs or systems, encouraging the body to rebalance itself.

For allergy sufferers, this may help calm the body’s overactive immune response, support sinus drainage, and ease general discomfort.

Target Areas for Allergy Relief (Based on TCM Guidance)

According to our TCM therapist, Ms. Mai, the most relevant areas to focus on are:

Key Acupressure Point

  • The single red dot shown in the image highlights the key location for allergy relief. Gently pressing this point may help modulate immune overreaction and reduce symptoms.

Reflex Zone to Massage

  • The elongated red area along the outer ridge of the ear is a reflex zone that responds well to gentle massage. Although not a formal acupressure point, stimulating this area can help with relaxation and circulation—two important factors in managing allergic reactions.

Refer to the image above to locate both the pressure point and the reflex zone accurately.

How to Stimulate These Areas

Even if you’re new to TCM, stimulating these ear points at home is simple:

  1. Make sure your ear and hands are clean.
  2. Use your fingertip or a smooth, rounded object to apply gentle pressure to the red-dot area for about 30 seconds.
  3. For the reflex zone, use your thumb and index finger to slowly massage along the outer ear from top to bottom for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Repeat daily, especially during allergy flare-ups.

How Acupressure Can Complement Auriculotherapy

While ear stimulation supports allergy relief through reflex zones, many TCM practitioners also recommend acupressure for more direct and systemic results. Acupressure applied to key meridian points on the body can strengthen lung function, regulate the immune system, and improve overall energy flow.
