In Traditional Chinese Medicine’s practice, foot acupressure points for fever can provide significant relief. This technique, detailed by Ms. Mai Sogawa, complements the methods described in our article on 7 pressure points to reduce fever. The focus here is on specific points on the feet and legs that effectively manage fever symptoms.
Foot Acupressure Points for Fever
- Liv-3: This point is found on the foot, near where the big toe and the second toe meet, just above the area where the bones of these two toes begin to diverge.
- KI-1: Located on the sole of the foot, in the depression formed when the foot is flexed. It’s approximately at the midpoint between the base of the second toe and the heel.
- SP-6: You’ll find this point on the inner side of the leg, just above the ankle. It’s four finger-widths above the highest point of the inner ankle bone.
- ST-36: This point is located on the front of the leg, below the knee. Place your hand below the kneecap, and where your little finger lands is approximately where ST-36 is situated.
Massaging Techniques for Beginners
When massaging Liv-3, Ms. Sogawa advises focusing on the area near the edge of the bone, pressing where you feel a slightly heavy sensation towards the bone. This technique helps in maximizing the effectiveness of acupressure for fever relief.
These acupressure points work by dissipating body heat and guiding it downwards, a process that helps reduce fever and is often called ‘clearing heat’ in Eastern medicine.
