While cupping is a technique that holds quite a large number of potential benefits, it is essential not to overlook the side-effects that may come with the therapy. Some people had reported experiencing side-effects like scarring when they opted for a cupping session. There are also cases of bruising. Having these marks on your back can be unpleasant, which is why you might be looking at how to get rid of cupping marks faster.

How Long Do Cupping Marks Last?

First of all, it is vital to understand how long cupping marks will usually take to heal. This allows you to have a better idea of what you should expect when you undergo this type of therapy.

The good news is, most people will find that these marks tend to heal and fade rather quickly. It is also essential to understand why the marks develop in the first place. In the majority of cases, it is not the cupping technique itself that causes the marks to develop. Instead, it is a poor lymphatic flow that leaves these marks.

The cupping technique helps the body heal. The marks are often left by the lymphatic system, as well as debris that builds up in the body. This is a natural part of the process and will generally not be a cause for concern.

Still, the presence of these marks can be quite unpleasant.

In most cases, it will take between five and ten days for the marks to go away on their own.

Can You Get Rid Of Cupping Masks Faster?

Some people ask how to get rid of cupping marks faster. This is usually the case when the natural process seems to take too long. You might want to go out to the beach, but you do not want to expose your body if these marks are present.

Some people suggest using arnica montana oil on the bruising. This may sometimes help to speed up the process of fading the marks that were left behind by the cupping process. Self-massage may also be beneficial sometimes.

Arnica oil can also be combined with the self-massage for faster effects.

According to a Chinese study, there are several ways to eliminate it:

  • Apply some safflower oil to ease the skin.
  • The method of warm compress with a towel and hot water can remove blood stasis (also blood stagnation)  because it promotes blood circulation and metabolism.
  • Ultraviolet treatment can be done on the marks. Generally, the treatment amount in 6 seconds can be subsided in one to two days.
  • Lastly, boil a few eggs and remove the shell. Roll them on the bruised part, and the problem will soon be solved. (This method is a folkway to remove stasis)
  • TCM Therapist, Ms. Mai Sogawa is of the opinion that alternating hot and cold showers can help improve blood circulation and help the scars fade faster.
  • She also recommends acupuncture to be effective. Because it promotes blood circulation, it will speed up the disappearance of scars.

From the perspective of modern medicine, the “bruise” left by cupping is caused by local capillary rupture and bleeding. The simplest and most effective removal method is heat therapy. Apply hot towel or hot water bag; blow with hairdryer; infrared treatment; shower with warm water many times a day. Increasing the local temperature can promote blood flow, thereby speeding up the removal of blood stasis and eliminating ecchymosis. According to Ms.Mai Sogawa, areas where cupping marks remain indicate poor blood circulation, so improving blood circulation is effective in improving blood stagnation and quickly erasing marks. However, please note that these hot water methods are only suitable for ecchymosis without blistering and ulceration.
